Free PDF tools that never upload your file

Think about what is actually in the PDFs you convert: salary slips, bank statements, Aadhaar and PAN copies, rent agreements, medical reports, offer letters. Then think about what a free online converter does with them — uploads them to a server you know nothing about, in a country you cannot name, under a privacy policy you did not read.

Most people do it anyway, because the alternative is buying Acrobat. There is a third option.

Tools that never see your file

The PDF tools on News Appite run inside your browser. The page loads a PDF engine onto your own device, your file is opened there, and the result is handed straight back to you. Nothing is transmitted, because there is no upload step at all.

You can verify this yourself: open one, turn off your Wi-Fi after the page has loaded, and convert a file. It still works.

That single design choice removes the entire problem. There is no server copy to be retained, breached or quietly used for training. There is also no file size limit beyond your own device's memory, and no queue.

What you can actually do

Merge PDF — combine documents into one, in the order you choose. The usual job: assembling scattered certificates into a single file an application form will accept.

Split PDF and Delete PDF pages — pull out the three pages you need, or drop the blank reverse sides a scanner added.

Compress PDF — and, because portals state exact limits rather than "smaller please", fixed-target versions: 100 KB, 200 KB, 500 KB and 1 MB. They try quality levels until the file fits.

PDF to Word — a real editable DOCX with paragraphs and headings, not each page pasted in as a picture.

PDF to JPG and JPG to PDF — both directions, for when a form wants images and you have a document, or the reverse.

Sign PDF — draw your signature with a finger or mouse, place it on the page, download. No printing, scanning or posting.

Unlock PDF — removes the open password from a file when you already know the password. It does not break into files whose password nobody has, and nothing honest does.

PDF OCR — turns a scan into text you can actually select and search, in English, Hindi and other Indian languages.

Rotate, crop, page numbers, watermark, organise pages — the small corrections that otherwise need desktop software.

The two things worth knowing before you start

A scanned PDF has no text in it. If you cannot select a sentence with your cursor, the page is a photograph. Converting it to Word gives you an empty document, and that is not a bug. Run it through OCR first.

Compression has a floor. Text-only PDFs shrink enormously. A ten-page colour scan of photographs will not reach 100 KB and stay readable — convert it to greyscale, or rescan at 200 DPI. There is a step-by-step guide for hitting a specific limit.

Why we built them

We publish News Appite, and we are a software studio first. These started as tools we needed ourselves and became the most useful thing we could put in front of people: not a case study about fast, private software, but fast, private software you can use in the next thirty seconds without giving us an email address.

They are free and they stay free. All 507 of them are here.

If you need something like this built for your own business — a tool, an internal system, a site that is quick because somebody cared — tell us what you have in mind.
